Rhonda S. Hammond, AIA, ID, NCARB

Rhonda Hammond, AIA, a principal at the Hammond Design Group, is dedicated to showcasing the critical value architects bring to their communities. She emphasizes the importance of creating aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces that enhance quality of life. “Architects contribute to the creation of spaces that not only improve daily living but also strengthen local economies by attracting businesses, residents, and tourists,” she explains.

Rhonda served as the 2024 President of the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida). Based in Tallahassee, Florida, Hammond brings a lifelong passion for advocacy to her leadership role at AIA Florida, which is recognized as the “voice of the profession.” She is a licensed architect in both Florida and Georgia and also holds a professional interior design license.

With over 30 years of experience in the architectural field, she has held numerous leadership roles within AIA. She served as President of the AIA Tallahassee chapter in 2019 and has held various state-level positions, including Vice President and Chair of the Advocacy Committee. Her extensive experience in these roles underscores her commitment to advancing the architectural profession and advocating for its impact on communities.

Rhonda graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s (FAMU) School of Architecture and Engineering Technology, where she has also served as an Associate Professor of Architecture. She later earned a Master of Sustainable Design from the University of Florida, further deepening her expertise in innovative and environmentally conscious design practices.

Rhonda is also a strong advocate for innovation in building design. She highlights how adopting new technologies and sustainable practices can lead to more efficient and environmentally friendly structures, driving economic diversification for the State of Florida. “Innovation in architecture not only improves the built environment but also creates opportunities for new industries, products, and services,” says Hammond. Her vision underscores the role of architects as leaders in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future.
