The Hammond Design Group, LLC was engaged by the FDEP Bureau of Design & Construction to develop construction documents for new boardwalks, dune crossovers, and whale-watching observation platforms at Gamble Rogers State Park. This environmentally sensitive project required meticulous planning to integrate structures within the delicate dune ecosystem while adhering to ADA standards to ensure accessibility for all users.

Key aspects of the project included:

• Coordination to minimize environmental impacts on dunes and vegetation.
• Compliance with permitting through Beaches and Shores.
• Scheduling construction outside the sea turtle nesting season.

The project, completed over one year, involved close collaboration with stakeholders through periodic meetings to ensure transparency and alignment. Despite the challenges, the result was a successful, on-time, and within-budget development that provides ADA-accessible beach and observation platforms for viewing the migrating Right Whale population, with minimal environmental impact.
