Bret Hammond, HDG Architects

Bret Hammond is the Founder and Principal of Hammond Design Group, LLC, which he established on February 14, 2000, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and design excellence. As the driving force behind the firm, Bret oversees client collaboration to develop innovative building designs and optimize site placement of structures. He works closely with clients to ensure their design visions are realized, while also addressing functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal.

With more than 38 years of experience in the building industry and over 30 years in the design professions, Bret brings a wealth of expertise to every project. His professional journey encompasses document production, client relations, contract negotiation, permitting, construction oversight, and the integration of architectural and landscape architectural disciplines. Whether it involves crafting nuanced designs tailored to a client’s unique needs, navigating complex permitting processes, or providing oversight during construction, Bret remains deeply involved in every aspect of the firm’s projects.

As a licensed architect and landscape architect, Bret possesses a distinctive skill set that allows him to deliver a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to design. This dual licensure enables him to consider projects holistically—integrating the built environment with its natural surroundings to create harmonious, functional, and visually striking spaces. His work as a landscape architect involves site analysis, environmental planning, and the design of outdoor spaces that balance ecological sensitivity with client objectives. From creating master plans for large developments to designing intimate outdoor environments, Bret ensures that each project blends seamlessly with its context and enhances the user experience.

In his role as an architect, Bret focuses on delivering innovative and sustainable building designs that meet client goals while adhering to budgetary and regulatory constraints. His architectural work ranges from residential and commercial buildings to institutional and mixed-use developments. Bret’s expertise in the master planning process allows him to guide projects from initial concept through to completion, ensuring that all aspects—form, function, and context—are thoughtfully addressed.

Beyond his professional practice, Bret is passionate about inspiring the next generation of designers and builders. For over 15 years, he has taught drafting and design courses at a local community college. Through his teaching, Bret has mentored countless students, encouraging them to pursue careers in construction, architecture, and design. Many of his students have gone on to attend prestigious schools of architecture or establish successful careers in the building industry.

Under Bret’s leadership, Hammond Design Group has earned a reputation for design excellence, client-focused service, and the ability to seamlessly integrate architecture and landscape architecture into cohesive and impactful projects. His dedication to his craft, combined with decades of experience, continues to drive the firm’s success and solidify its standing as a trusted partner in the design and construction industry.
