Ochlocknee Bay , Florida
As a part of a new development on Ochlocknee Bay, PBS&J Inc., hired Hammond Design Group to design a clubhouse for the Tradewinds Community. The 5,500 square foot facility provides the community a space to gather and entertain while enjoying the intimate views of the bay.
Commonly a novelty of beach construction, the clubhouse is designed in a simplistic Florida Vernacular style. The materials and rectilinear forms denote construction types of early beach settlers. These elements, commonly found in North Florida, are comprised of metal roofs, wood frames and structural masonry construction. Other vernacular traits include lofty ceilings, large slender windows, and protective overhangs in direct relation to the environmental features of North Florida.
The floor plan consists of a lower deck, providing access to a 2,000 square foot pool. The upper deck houses the main clubhouse, restroom facilities and a large wrap-around deck that allows views of the Tradewinds community. In addition, the clubhouse is also equipped with an observation deck, thus affording even more spectacular views of the exquisite coastline and surrounding community.
The Hammond Design Group was able to convey the needs of the client in a Florida vernacular style that compliments the traits of the Tradewinds Community and the North Florida coastal environment.
