Old Town Elementary School

Old Town, Florida

The Old Town Elementary school was renovated in phases. The project consists of 6,500 sq ft. of educational space and auditorium. The project window restoration began in May of 2001 and will be completed September 2001. The projects goal was to work within the State grants awarded to the Dixie County Historic Society. The Hammond Design Group prepared an architectural assessment of the structure, as-built drawings, schematic/ conceptual drawings, handicap accessibility improvement drawings and window restoration construction documents. Future construction phases include the restoration of the exterior and interior doors, electrical system, exterior and interior painting.

The Hammond Design Group made a substantial effort to work within the client’s time frame utilizing State funds. Work continues and it is anticipated that the project could conceivably take 5 years to complete. The Dixie County Historic Society holds regular monthly meetings at the building and plans to utilize the building as a Cultural Center.
